A new 'Me'
—'The New Testament gives me peace and joy when I read it. Every time I read, it gives me peace and joy inside. I feel that the New Testament is a companion to me to have in my language (it accompanies me). Before I had the Bible in Spanish, but I did not understand it.'
Martina lives in Quimil, Argentina and speaks West Toba. Her community was hit by terrible flooding, and as the matriarch of her family, she had to coordinate her 7 children, and 21 grandchildren as they deal with the aftermath. Despite great struggle, having to move away from their food-sources and way of life by the water, Martina shared that they have found hope. Her community have been working with the Bible Society of Argentina, and they now have The New Testament in her language!
‘The Bible has helped me deal with this situation of the flooding and moving. I am not angry with God because of this... The Bible has helped me not to be angry with God. The Bible has given me hope in this situation and has helped me to be closer and connected with God. Before I had the Bible in Spanish, but I did not understand it.
The work of the first missionaries here among the Toba people reminds me of the work of Paul and I remember the work of the first missionaries (here). The New Testament gives me peace and joy when I read it. Every time I read, it gives me peace and joy inside ...The New Testament is a companion to me to have in my language (it accompanies me).
I am a new Martina as a result of the New Testament in West Toba.
Will you help people like Martina read God’s Word in their heart language for the first time? Your gift will make a huge difference — enabling the Bible Society worldwide to reach every language in the world with the hope of God’s Word.
