Simbat’s Story: “What Do You Really Think of Me?”

"What Do You Really Think of Me, God?"

For years, she carried a question deep in her heart: What does God really think of me?

In her family, giving compliments wasn’t really a thing. It was believed you could go through life just fine without praise or kind words. At school, she was bullied because of her appearance and her eczema. The girls didn’t want to be friends with her, and the boys called her names.

Over time, she started to believe what they said.
“I felt like something was missing in me. I thought maybe God had passed me by.”

On the outside, she learned to be tough. On the inside, she struggled with insecurity and loneliness. Whenever she was alone, the negative thoughts would creep back in.

As she got older, the questions she carried became more like accusations for God.

“Why did You make me like this? Why did You let this happen?“
But she never shared those thoughts with anyone.

The Moment Everything Started to Change

When she heard about Alpha, she decided to give it a try.

One evening, towards the end of the course, everyone in the group was asked to share something they appreciated about each other.

She dreaded it, She felt awkward.

“I honestly thought no one would have anything good to say about me.” But as people began speaking, she was surprised by what she heard. But when it was her turn, the group began to say kind, thoughtful, and deeply touching things.  It hit her,  they had been watching her all along, but not to find faults.

“They saw something good in me. It shook the way I thought about myself.“
Years of hurt had taught her to focus on her faults. These people saw something different.

The Answer She Had Been Looking For

Not long afterwards, she found herself asking God a different question but this time, not with accusations.

“Did You really punish me? What do You truly think of me?”
Later, She went to  camp, where we had an activity involving anonymous notes. Someone had written me a verse from the Song of Songs 4:7.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”
She still remembers reading those words.

“It felt like God was answering my question personally.” For years, she had listened to the voices that told her she wasn’t enough. Now she was learning to listen to His.

Learning to Believe God’s Truth

A few months later, she attended an art evening for girls. Everyone was invited to paint what was on their heart.
She painted a picture of Jesus hugging her.

“That’s exactly how I’ve felt these past few months.”

For the first time, she shared her story openly. As she spoke, she realised many of the other girls had experienced similar struggles.
The hurt may have been different, but the feelings were often the same. Today, she is grateful for the way God has met her through friendships and Scripture .
