Kiryan’s Story: “Why Would God Love Someone Like Me?”

“Why Would God Love Someone Like Me?” The Question that changed everything.

At 20 years old, Kiryan had already made up his mind about God.

Growing up in a family with little money, he spent much of his childhood listening to arguments between his parents. Over time, he came to believe that love had to be earned. If you wanted people to care about you, you had to work hard to deserve it.
That belief also shaped how he viewed God.

“Before, I was sure that God did not exist,” Kiryan says. “There is simply too much injustice, pain and suffering in the world. If God existed, He would not allow all of this to happen.”

Even when he began taking part in Alpha activities, he kept his distance. He wasn’t looking for faith. He wasn’t searching for God. He was simply observing from the sidelines.
But God was already at work.

A Surprise Responsibility
At the end of 2025, the Alpha team organised a Christmas celebration for children from a local orphanage. Several young people who were not Christians were invited to help, giving them the chance to experience the atmosphere and be part of serving others.

Kiryan was given responsibility for one of the activity stations.
His job was simple: tell the children a Bible story about God’s love and then help them make a clay craft.
He couldn’t believe they trusted him with something so important.

“When they made me responsible for that station, I was really surprised. I remember that with the first group I did not tell the story completely correctly, although I communicated the main idea. But nobody criticised me for it. They trusted me with something so important and valuable”

As he watched the children listen carefully to the story, a question began forming in his mind.
“Why does God love people so much? What have they done to deserve it?”

It was a question he couldn’t shake.

The Journey Home
After two days filled with games, activities and worship, it was time to go home.
During the long drive back, Kiryan sat quietly.
While everyone else chatted, he stared out of the window, lost in thought. It was clear that something was weighing on his mind.
Then, nearly two hours into the journey, he finally broke the silence.

“I can’t go on like this anymore,” he said. “Tell me about your God. Tell me about His love.”

The words surprised everyone.
“During these two days,” he continued, “I felt His love so clearly. But I don’t understand why He loves us or what we have done to deserve it.”

A Love He Had Never Known
As the conversation continued, Kiryan was told about Jesus and the cross.
He learned that God’s love is not something we earn. It is not a reward for being good enough.

Jesus gave His life for us because He loves us, not because we deserve it.
For Kiryan, this idea was completely new.

“Everything I believed growing up told me that love had to be earned,” he said. “This changes everything.”

He needed time to think.
Time to process.
Time to rethink what he had believed for so many years.

Finding the Answer
Not long afterwards, Kiryan gave his life to Christ.
Today, he is actively involved in church life. He attends services regularly, takes part in a home group, and meets with a mentor who helps him grow in his faith. The young man who once questioned whether God existed is now discovering what it means to be loved by Him.

And it all began with one simple question:
“Why would God love someone like me?”

How many people around us are asking the same questions Kiryan once asked?
Many young people are growing up believing they are unloved, unnoticed, or that they must earn their worth. They long for hope but have never encountered the life-changing message of God’s grace.

Your support can help more people hear this good news.
Will you help someone searching for answers discover the hope, purpose, and unconditional love that can only be found in Christ?
