A Bible for Every Hand. A Hope for Every Heart.

What if owning a Bible cost you a week’s wages? Across Uganda, millions long to have their very own Bible, yet for many, the cost remains beyond reach. But you can help to change that.

Will you help place a Bible in the hands of someone who longs to read God’s Word but cannot afford one?

In Uganda, Bibles cost around £8 - the equivalent of a week’s wages. But when every penny is needed for food, shelter, school fees and healthcare, purchasing a Bible becomes an impossible expense.

As a result, spiritual resources are often seen as a luxury rather than an immediate necessity. Buying a Bible, travelling to a church with teaching resources, or accessing Christian literature can therefore be financially difficult, especially in poorer rural areas.

For many households, every penny goes towards basic survival, with families facing deprivation in education, healthcare, sanitation, housing and living standards. These challenges affect not only physical wellbeing but also access to biblical teaching, discipleship resources and Christian education.

Despite this strong Christian presence, many churches, pastors and believers still lack sufficient access to affordable Bibles and Scripture resources in local languages, particularly in poorer and remote communities.

Across Uganda, churches, prisons, hospitals, and schools are filled with people eager to read God’s Word, yet many cannot afford a Bible of their own. For someone longing for hope, comfort, and guidance, a Bible is not just a book, it is a lifeline. The Bible Society is working to place free and subsidised Scriptures into the hands of those who need them most, but thousands are still waiting. “God’s Word is especially powerful when people can read it in the language they know best. Uganda is home to more than 50 languages, but the Bible has been translated into just 20 of them. Through the generosity of supporters like you, the Bible Society of Uganda is making Scripture available in more heart languages. But there is still much work to do to ensure every community can read God’s Word in its own language.”
