Volunteers from Christian Fellowship Church Warsaw have set up an aid and information point in their church for Refugees

A Ministry Of Hope

This cluster has a declining Christian majority, with low importance placed on religion in daily life and a growing secular minority. Several of these countries have sizeable Muslim populations. Fieldwork took place in 11 of the 22 countries. Poland has deep Christian roots and a long tradition of Bible translation. The majority of the population identifies as Roman Catholic, and the Church continues to influence public life.

Responding to the War in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine in 2022 marked a turning point. Poland became a refuge for millions, and the Bible Society responded by distributing Scriptures. We distributed around half a million Bibles in Ukrainian and Russian, including children’s editions, partnering with churches to provide comfort through God’s Word. Poland also became a logistical hub for the Ukrainian Bible Society, enabling the delivery of Scriptures, generators, etc, when no other routes were accessible.

One moving story is that of Julia, a mother who fled Ukraine with her children. At a church in Kraków, she received a Ukrainian Bible. She said holding it again brought peace and stability she had not felt since the war began. Her children, given illustrated Bibles, began reading stories of hope. “I am in Poland because there is a war going on in my country. I am happy that I found a place where I received a Bible. I am glad that I have such support,” she says, hoping that the war will end soon. Many donors who initially gave to support Ukrainian refugees have continued supporting the broader mission, strengthening our long-term capacity.

Ongoing Ministry and Partnerships

We continue our long-term projects such as Bible for Every Prison Cell and Bible for Children and Youth, guided by Jesus’ words: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Our ministry is built not only on formal agreements but on relationships — with churches, communities, and groups that choose to work alongside us.

From Church Colleague to Volunteer Joanna, a historian at the Polish Academy of Sciences, researches the history of the British and Foreign Bible Society in Polish lands (1816–1992). Alongside her academic work, she volunteers as an editor for the revised Warsaw Bible translation. Her dual role illustrates a growing trend of engaging in Bible ministry both intellectually and practically. “I am glad that my academic research led me to discover the ongoing work of the Bible Society in Poland. It’s meaningful to contribute as a volunteer editor and give something back through the skills I’ve developed,” says Joanna.
