Healing Fractured Families Through God's Word

The Bible is highly regarded throughout most of this cluster; however, prior studies show Christian identity is also declining faster than the global average.
77% of this population indicate religion is an important part of their daily life
79% definitely or probably believe in God or a higher power
85% identify themselves as Christian, including
64% who specifically identify as Catholic
So far in 2025, there have been more than 1000 murders in Peru, 20% more than the previous year. Violence is prevalent in the streets and in the home, despite the population identifying heavily as Christian. Three in five women between the ages of 15 and 49 have suffered violence at some point in their lives, whether physical, sexual, economic, or psychological. The latter accounts for more than 50% of cases.
Studies show that such abuse can lead to addiction, health or behavioural problems, financial struggle, and more. These problems further break down families, causing a cycle of abuse. To address these social issues, the PBS has been working to combat domestic violence with God’s Word. The PBS has developed fourteen Bible study guides titled Healthy Families. It is hoped that 5,000 will be distributed this year, healing families through the values of the Bible.
September is Bible Month and Family Month in Peru, an opportunity to promote the Good Treatment guide in parishes. With women making up 60% of churches, there is an urgent need for partnership between the parish and home to connect with fathers who are often only open to receiving help when facing a crisis. PBS’ Healthy Family guides are an effort to help whole families and communities across Peru engage with the Bible.
The PBS hopes to help Peruvians engage with Biblical teaching in relationships, ending violence in society, in families, and in marriages. “In a marriage, we are not just two, we are three, because God is among us… is is the key to receiving God’s blessing and being a witness to young people and our neighbours.” These words from Mr. Diogenes Rivera and Mrs. Delfina Quispe represent the influence that Bible-centred living is having on their community.
