Moisés’ Story: “Jesus Loves Me”.
—When the Bible Society Colleagues arrived at Tebow Down Chimaltenango, they expected a day of teaching and encouragement. What they did not expect was to be deeply moved by the voice of an 18-year-old boy whose joy shone brighter than anything else in the room.
That voice belonged to Moisés Hernández.
Living with his mother, sister, and grandmother in the department of Chimaltenango, Moisés has grown up facing the challenges that come with Down syndrome, yet he radiates a happiness and tenderness that remind all who meet him of the simple beauty of God’s love.
“I Learned That Jesus Is My Friend”
Moisés has been receiving specialised biblical materials created by the Bible Society of Guatemala. These resources are carefully designed to help children and adolescents with Down syndrome learn through storytelling, repetition, and practical activities. His teachers, trained on how to use the material, support him daily as he grows in reading, writing, and essential life skills.
But for Moisés, these books are far more than lessons.
“Hello, Bible Society of Guatemala,” he said with a wide smile. “I am very happy about the values activity you shared with me and my friends. I learned that I must obey my teacher and respect my classmates and my family. Thank you for teaching me that Jesus is my friend and that He loves me.”
Every page he reads seems to settle gently into his heart.
A Gift That Filled Him with Joy
The day he received his books is one he still remembers vividly.
“My teachers told me the Bible Society had brought a special gift for me,” he recalls. “I was very excited because I love gifts.”
In class, he read stories about Jesus. These stories make him feel seen, valued, and loved. Later, he carried the books home, holding them carefully, eager to share them.

His favourite book is Jesus Blesses the Children.
“It makes me so happy to know that Jesus loves me and blesses me,” he says, his voice soft with sincerity. “I read it every night with my mum.”
In a world that often overlooks children like Moisés, God’s Word whispers a different story—one of belonging, purpose, and limitless love.
