Nalongo Miliam is one of the sixty-five Christians from Seeta Archdeaconry that received free Bibles on October 14th 2020 at St. Luke Church of Uganda Seeta. Following a clergy sensitisation meeting held by the ABIEH5 Project in July 2020, in which Rev. Canon David Mpagi, the archdeacon of the area, appealed to the Bible Society of Uganda to support Christians that were in dire need of a Bible but could not afford to buy one.

They developed a secret plan to find the most eager, and intervene on their behalf. The church involved zone leaders to identify particular individuals that regularly attended fellowships, but without a Bible.

Then on Saturday October 14th, 2020, they were invited to church to receive a Bible. Many of them did not believe it, why were they selected? Although they needed a Bible badly, they hardly presented their pleas before anyone for help... but the church decided they would benefit most from having one.

On receiving the Bible that day, it was a joy filled moment getting a perfect, unexpected gift. As some, like Rita Nampeera notably said, “I thank The Bible Society [of Uganda] for the good things they have done for us. Especially we, the people of Seeta, because they have given us a Bible. To be able to soothe our hearts that were wounded, as well as ensuring that our hearts will be stronger in the Lord our God. We can only give thanks and all praise to Him.”

For the elderly that could not walk up to the church, we went up to their homes and delivered their Bibles. After reading her favourite scripture, Psalm 103, Nalongo Miliam was amazed that the Bible Society of Uganda would think of her, to bring her such a beautiful gift. She added,

I feel good because if any life has challenges, it is in such a book, the Bible, that we find happiness. Because when we read, we remember the things we had forgotten. It takes away the loneliness, and brings hope. I also thank God for the Bible because I read it very well alongside my hymn book, so I thank God for that.”
