Roinn am Bìoball

The summer of 2022 saw two months of recording by actors and over fifty volunteers. The volunteers contributed hundreds of hours of time, patiently proof listening each section and adding their own voices to the recording to be a part of this historical project. We believe what they have achieved will be a legacy for generations to come.

We always envisioned that this recording should be made ‘by the community for the community’, and so were delighted to launch the Bible at two events this February in Edinburgh and Stornoway.

Alasdair Allan, MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, kindly hosted a reception at the Scottish Parliament where some of the readers and volunteers involved in the project gathered with church leaders. In Lewis the Stornoway Free Church, where the recordings took place last summer, continued their great hospitality and support of the project. Rev James Maciver led a wonderful service of thanksgiving to God for the provision of this Bible.

Lumo Gospels

These audio recordings are also being added to four films depicting the four gospels that will be made available for free and will be of great use to Gaelic speakers worldwide. Beautifully filmed, they are particularly suitable for use in Gaelic medium education and with young people.

There is great demand for the Bible within Scotland’s Gaelic community and so we are also delighted to be working with the Church of Scotland Gaelic Committee to produce the first Gaelic Children’s Bible in print for twenty years. Innis Stòiridh às a’ Bhìoball features 15 different stories from the Old and New Testaments, stretching from creation to the great commission.
