The three Khemese brothers and friend, Makhosini Mnguni are The Soweto String Quartet , who were established in 1992 as a distinctly African group that inspired a sound textured in African melody with their eighteenth century stringed musical instruments. The quartet specialises in producing traditional and contemporary African music, having recorded hugely successful albums for BMG.
Like all other albums produced by the Quartet, Play Gospel is an emotional work of art, showcasing a range of rhythms and intonations , such as the combination of traditional rhythms and township jazz. Classical music however, is the defining genre.
